My name is Denise Avivit de Alcantara Hochbaum, a Brazilian architect who obtained a master’s degree in Performing Arts from the School of Communications and Arts of the University of Sao Paulo and a Doctorate in Architecture from the School of Architecture and Urban Studies of the University of Sao Paulo. My education continued in the US, and I attended training in art management and computer design at NYU, Stage Technology at New York College of Technology in NYC and History of Art at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC.
Combined with architectural design and graphic design, my practice in the US has consistently contributed to the expansion of Brazilian Cultural identity in the fields of architecture, art, and theatre for scholars and professionals by producing exhibitions, planning lectures and workshops. Since 2010, I have developed interesting work in the Centers for Architecture (at the American Institute of Architecture) in NYC and Washington, DC.
Since 2017, I have expanded my interest, learning about emergent technologies of the internet. I have been immersed in ICANN (Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers). I verified new perspectives and connections in this field. In 2018, I was honored to attend the first NASIG, (North America School of the Internet) that took place in San Juan, Puerto Rico. From there, I attended in person three other NASIGs and virtually followed several IGF (Internet Governance Forum) in both the USA and foreign countries. As a result, Inclusive Digitalization became part of my priority interest in this field, followed by smart cities, artificial Intelligence and metaverse.
Besides my architectural industry practice and my participation at NARALO (North American At-Large Region), this current year 2023 my commitment with ICANN is to mentor young students – NEXGEN - from universities of the entire world to develop flash presentations about technology and education. I am pleased to have a chance to interact with students of different nationalities and backgrounds with the objective of guiding them to develop the best content.
Indeed, all the experience that I have accumulated in all my professional life helps me to incorporate my knowledge in these new tasks and keep my eyes always open to new aspects of the world of technology.
